Reflection on Luca turning 8

As a part of my Mama Rising learning journey, I have been reflecting on my experience of motherhood.

Learning about matrescence has cracked my motherhood stories wide open.

Matrescence is the transition a woman goes through when she becomes a mother. It acknowledges the enormous physical, emotional, psychological, cultural and personal changes that she goes through.

Through learning about matrescence I’ve been able to access greater self-compassion, as it acknowledges that becoming a mother is a continual learning process. It is always a becoming.

So as Luca turned 8 years old I reflected slightly differently this year. I allowed myself to acknowledge that I am also just 8 years old as a mum.
