4 questions to reflect on at the end of each month

Taking a moment to pause and reflect at the end of each month is a powerful gift to give to yourself. This monthly ritual allows you to acknowledge and celebrate your growth, identify what's working and what isn't, and make conscious choices about what you will carry forward into the next month.

At the end of each month, I ask myself 4 questions to help me reflect on different aspects of the month.

Acknowledge and Celebrate Your Achievements:

"What's one thing (or more) that you are proud of YOURSELF for in this past month?"

I love this question. It helps me to see who I have been for myself in the past month.

It also encourages you to celebrate your accomplishments, no matter how big or small they may be. When I work with clients I can see the unhelpful power of Velcro versus Teflon thinking. You know the saying that our brain is like Teflon for positive thoughts - we don't easily remember positive thoughts. However, for negative thoughts, our brain is like Velcro. Negative thoughts stick around!

So yes, you may need to do a little work to remind yourself…I suggest that you get out your calendar and diary. Scroll through your photos and be generous with yourself when you list those proud moments.

Identify Your Sources of Energy:

It's essential to pay attention to what energizes you. Ask yourself, "What energized you this past month?" This question helps you pinpoint the activities, people, or experiences that provided you with a sense of vitality and enthusiasm. Understanding what renews your energy allows you to incorporate more of these positive elements into your life, creating a happier and more fulfilling life.

Recognise Your Drains:

On the flip side, it's equally important to recognize what depletes your energy. Reflect on the question, "What depleted you in the past month?" This inquiry helps you identify sources of stress, negativity, or exhaustion in your life. Once you pinpoint these energy drains, you can take steps to minimize or eliminate them, making room for more positivity and productivity.

Let Go to reset:

Finally, get curious about "What do you need to let go of before you reset for the next month?" This query invites you to release the baggage of the past and make space for personal growth. Whether it's a grudge, a bad habit, or a self-limiting belief, identifying and letting go of these burdens can be incredibly liberating. It's a step toward a fresh start.

Taking 30 minutes at the end of each month to reflect on these four essential questions is a gift you give to yourself. It's a moment to acknowledge your accomplishments, discover your sources of energy, recognize your energy drains, and clear space for change and growth.

So, why not schedule a monthly reflection date with yourself and unlock the benefits of this valuable self-care routine? Your future self will thank you for it.
